The year 1995 saw the first exhibition of contemporary Chinese art in the Arts Santa Mònica. The works displayed then were product of the opening policy of China with a special background that included a complex and deep reflection of Chinese society. After 30 years of stagnation since the opening up policy, Chinese contemporary art transforms their conception and overcomes the limitations that for years have reduced both in content and in its own expansion. The artists start widening his concept of art and especially in what refers to the understanding of their own traditional culture.
The PURE VIEWS comes with the intent to meet the new trend of Chinese contemporary art and its artists. Curated by the art historian Lu Peng, PURE VIEWS today presents the work of young artists of today and those who have grown up in the past 30 years of contemporary Chinese art, the most important already present in 95. Turning it into the most important Exhibition of Chinese contemporary art to be made outside China.
The exhibition invites thirty one Chinese contemporary artists, with diverse techniques and media, answer to the expectations of this new society and new concepts, reflecting on his relationship with the previous Chinese art history. "PURE VIEWS" Chinese vision towards the world also wants to contribute to solving some of the challenges of our society, organizing discussion and a wide documentary panorama and collateral activities for understanding and interpretation of contemporary Chinese art.
