Why Chinese? It has been a logical consequence of my interest in politics and social issues. My first approach was in the Fairs beginning 200o when in Paris and Turin started to show Chinese painters, mainly Wang, Zhang and Yue. Logically, Wang Guangyi for his works  was my favourite: colour and social critic. I also liked very much Yue Minjun, but at this time Silvio Berlusconi was the head of Italy, and this faces were to similar to him, so to have them permanently is hard to support. Zhang Xiaogang was the most classical and did not provoke excitement to me. Now, If instead of buy Wang, I bought one of the others my pocket will be more excited!

Today, Chinese are the almost painters, with pop surrealism ones, who use art as a critical tool. And was for that I approach deeply in his works. I started with Yin Kun or Chen Qiuchi or a wonderful Xiong Lijun plentiful of double sense in order to be faithful to the aim of the collection, but I could not resist to the boom in prices value of other  Chinese painters who do works also interesting to my taste. That was the case of Zhong Biao, one of the firsts I noticed, and from I would like to buy something more political from his series of 2007, but at the end I bought something more commercial.

In the meantime the big became bubbles (I hope not) unaffordable, and I continued to buy young political compromise painters like You Yuzhong. That until “The Sanya Collection”.

I’m tried to buy a small work from a big, but all the times, despite a fair budget, it was impossible and I loosed other opportunities to buy more affordable works and which matched perfectly to my collection.

Regarding the Christie’s catalogue and trying to identify which lots I was able to bid for I noticed this Sanya collection, a set of several paper works, nothing more than that. But looking closely I was fascinated by the text from Lu Peng, how the works were born and why. Each day more closely to the auction I was more exciting by the possibility to have “The Sanya collection” rather than a Yue Minjun. Yes, Yue did not match the aim of the collection but he is a sure value in order to lift the value of the collection and the investment. I always talk about the idea of the collection, but I always want a return on that works, my resources are not unlimited! “The Sanya collection” neither, but I was fascinated, true that are works on paper and always less considered than canvas, but I thought that if it was true they did not matched with the aim of the collection, certainly will match in my wisdom regarding the Chinese art market and my passion of collecting “special” works. And “The Sanya collection” is the set of works more special in all the Chinese contemporary art. That because of how they were made, why they were made, where they were made, when they were made and by whom they were made.

The problem now, beginning 2008, is to decide the next movements. Now that I collected something very special and from the big names of Chinese contemporary art I have to decide if continuing with the aim of the collection or follow others ways.
